Dr. Butler is a board certified family physician who has practiced in Wenatchee, WA since 1993. He served as the Chief Medical Officer of Columbia Valley Community Health from 1995-2021.
Dr. Butler is a board certified family physician. Born and raised in Seattle, he obtained a B.A. in philosophy from Cornell University, thereafter returning to Seattle for medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his Family Practice residency and an Academic Fellowship at the Ventura County Family Practice Residency in Ventura California.
Dr. Butler has practiced in Wenatchee, Washington since 1993, and served as the Medical Director of Columbia Valley Community Health from 1995 until 2021. In his capacity as Chief Medical Officer, he helped to lead Columbia Valley Community Health through a period of dramatic growth and improvement. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW), both as a clinician representative and as an executive committee member.
Dr. Butler has, through painful trial and error, developed a degree of expertise in indigent care, chronic pain, obstetrics, and physician leadership. He has spoken throughout the Northwest on provider incentives, management of difficult patients, capitated Medicaid, system improvement, and patient access/satisfaction. During his tenure, Columbia Valley Community Health has become a patient-centric evidence-based practice, with a fully integrated Electronic Medical Record, integrated Behavioral Health program, and population based chronic disease management programs.
Dr. Butler was named Washington State Family Physician of the Year in 2005. In 2012 he received regional recognition, and in 2013, national recognition, for the work CVCH has done to address the epidemic of accidental opioid overdoses. He is well supported at home by his wife Cherie, and their three children.
