Throughout her training Dr. Edelman engaged in research which explored what factors make therapy work for different people, which included the therapeutic relationship between the patient and therapist as well as cultural humility within the therapy space. Additionally, her research and teaching have a focus on human gender and relationships, which allows her to apply this lens to her work with her therapy patients.

As a provider, Dr. Edelman has experience working with adults, children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Edelman takes a whole-person approach to treatment, recognizing that every person has internal wisdom and an ability to grow but sometimes life can make can make it difficult connect with these things. She understands that mental health  can be influenced by a variety of factors, including one’s relationships, life stressors, early childhood history, culture, spirituality, genetic vulnerabilities, and even other biological factors such as chronic illnesses. Treatment with Dr. Edelman can be as simple as a single visit to focus on a current issue from a strength’s based perspective, but can also include a variety of therapeutic orientations including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), interpersonal dynamic therapy and attachment-based interventions. Dr. Edelman is also trained in and provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to patients based on her availability and case load.

Dr. Edelman has special interests in ADHD, neurodivergence, life transitions, parenting support, maternal health and wellness, masculine gender informed diagnosis and care, depression, anxiety, trauma and gender affirming care. She periodically facilitates parenting support groups, including Circle of Security and ADHD Parenting Workshops. She is not bilingual (yet) in Spanish but is working to improve her ability to communicate in Spanish and is committed to providing high quality, culturally sensitive care to all her patients across racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, religious, abilities, and cultural identities.

In her free time, Dr. Edelman enjoys cooking, baking, wine tasting, gardening, crafting, and spending time with her partner, family and her German shepherd, Andromeda.
