Dr. Gutierrez joined CVCH as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in November 2021. He formerly worked as the Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Phoenix VA and has been faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine since 2009. Concurrently he served as Deputy Tuberculosis Control Officer for Maricopa County Department of Health.
Dr. Gutierrez was born in Mexico and came to the United States as a small child. His family settled in the Los Angeles area. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona and completed a Master’s in Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He completed an Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He served as medical officer in the United States Air Force Reserve for 12 years.

I love spending time with family and enjoy taking in the amazing outdoor opportunities that Washington offers. I have deep appreciation for music and enjoy a wide variety of styles from classical to mariachi music.
What attracted you to CVCH?
My reason for choosing CVCH was the service mission that drives what we do each day. As an immigrant myself, I share much in common with many of the people we serve and feel privileged to be able to give back to the community.
