Education
Biography

Undergrad: She attended the University of Houston where she received her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2019

Graduate: She completed her master’s degree in clinical psychology at the University of South Dakota where she is currently a doctoral candidate working on her PhD in clinical psychology.

Sara has primarily focused her advocacy and research work on mental healthcare disparities and barriers to access that impact racially/ethnically diverse communities. She has a particular interest in understanding how to better promote community-based initiatives to build sustainable and supportive access to mental health services for Hispanic communities. Sara has experience working in community mental health including residential substance use treatment and outpatient settings. She has worked with individuals experiencing a broad range of mental health diagnoses from acute and mild to chronic and severe. Sara primarily works from an integrative approach that is person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and cognitive behavioral.

Why did you choose to do your internship at CVCH?

I chose CVCH because of its commitment to serving diverse and underserved community members. The opportunity to work in an integrative position was something I really wanted to learn more about as it provides an important opportunity for mental healthcare providers to reach those who face a range of barriers in accessing our services. I am excited to learn more about how I can be a better community member and believe the mission of CVCH aligns with my long-term career goals.
