Laura Aquije, M.A. is a doctoral intern who is completing the final year of her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. Laura was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton in 2019 and obtained her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2022 from Alliant International University in Los Angeles, CA. She is passionate about helping each client realize and utilize the internal strengths they already possess to work through life challenges and believes that each individual is capable of resiliency. Her interests include working with culturally diverse and underserved youths, adults, and families from marginalized backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community. Her interventions are culturally sensitive, LGBTQ+ affirming, and grounded in humanistic, strength-based, CBT, and psychodynamic approaches to cope with trauma, depression, and anxiety.

Why did you choose to do your internship at CVCH?

Laura chose to do her internship at CVCH because of their commitment to serving underserved and marginalized populations. She was also drawn to CVCH’s goal to prepare and mentor clinicians to be culturally sensitive in their clinical work. She believes that acknowledging diversity concepts, including issues of marginalized populations, is an integral aspect of providing mental health services and addressing each client’s unique needs.
