CVCH Medical Director Dr. Malcolm Butler’s recent article on Chronic Pain was published by the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association.

Over the past few years, Dr. Butler has been leading the Opioid Reduction movement, gaining traction and recognition nationwide. He was the winner of the 2012 NWRPCA Summit Award for outstanding leadership of a quality improvement project.

Notably, opioid-related deaths are down at CVCH and statewide. The number of deaths dropped to three in 2012 after seven in 2011; ten in 2010; and five in 2009. Dr. Butler attributes hard work by local doctors.
“We did hard work and it looks like we are saving lives, which I think is incredibly exciting,” said Butler.
Dr. Butler was also interviewed by Healthcare Informatics on the challenges involved in communicating with and engaging our diverse patient population.
